Granite is a conglomerate of minerals and rocks, primarily made up of quartz, potassium feldspar, mica, amphiboles and traces of other minerals. Granite is also known to be the world’s oldest igneous rock, meaning it formed in result of cooling lava and magma. Due to the natural stones’ dynamic composition, it creates various colour and density combinations. Recently, we have expanded our product line by adding an additional colour variation we have not had access to in the past.
Algonquin Granite is thrilled to announce our most recent acquisition of the Dana Black Quarry located just outside of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario. This licensed quarry property gives us the utmost access to the only all-natural, black granite sourced within Ontario at this time. Due to the rising demand of all-natural building materials, Dana Black provides you with a sustainable alternative to black granite to complement today’s contemporary designs and themes.
Due to the smaller grain and crystal sizes within this particular granite, has quickly proven to us and Geology Canada that it is significantly stronger than most other granites. In any case, it is easily strong and durable enough to be used as any form of building stone. Along with the homogeneous structure this granite replicates, the interlocking bond the grains share result in the granite never losing its original colouring and physical appearance.
Dana Black granite has a very notable, long-standing history. Some projects that may sound familiar that included our black granite application are: O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, the Courthouse in Buffalo, the Sons of Norway Building in Minneapolis, Union Carbide Building in Toronto and the Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada building in Toronto to name a few.
We are confident that Dana Black is capable of taking your upcoming project from ordinary to extraordinary! Algonquin Granite is pleased to offer this new product line in all sizes, thickness and 4 alternative finishes to help you complete your customized project seamlessly.
